StartUp Kaduna Hosts Hour Of Code Session

Kaduna is manifesting herself on the Nigerian map as one of the hubs for technology and innovation of the nation outside Lagos.

In the recent past the drive to develop the tech sector in kaduna as taking a new turn with various events that have been geared towards improving the sector. Kaduan is manifesting herself on the Nigerian map as one of the hubs for technology and innovation of the nation outside of Lagos.

One of those events is the Hour of Code session undertaken by Startup Kaduna in collaboration with Brainiacs, Kaduna International School, STEM and Robotics, The Hour of Code which is an initiative of www.Code.org designed to serve as an introductory session for children and young adults into the basics of Computer programming is an hour during which participants (kids between the ages of 5 and 16) learned programming while playing the Microsoft game Minecraft. The session which last an hour had participants from different schools in attendance. The event took place at Kaduna International School here in Kaduna.

Participants were provided with a certificate at the end of the exercise and a copy of the tutorial. Hour of Code also too place in Jos and Lagos.

Kadanewsmag spoke with the organizer and here is what he said about the event.

“We are excited at the prospects of sparking interest in technology in young people in Kaduna. Some early stage schools teach computer science but most don’t. The Hour of Code™ introduces our kids in Kaduna to computer coding so they can have the same opportunities as Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg who mastered the elementary computer programming guide ‘C++ for dummies’ at 9 years of age.” – Samaila Goje, Startup Kaduna
