The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack some of his ministers who are not performing.
Comrade Ayuba Wabba made this known in a publication yesterday when he was speaking on the expectation of the organized labour from the Buhari administration. He said that an immediate cabinet reshuffle was needed two years down the line to remove underperforming ministers from Buhari’s cabinet.
Comrade Wabba welcomed the president from his medical vacation abroad that lasted over 100 days. He acknowledged that there was high anxiety when Nigerians learned that the president was returning because there were lots of expectations from Nigerians. He said that Nigerians are aching to know how the president plans to rejuvenate the machinery of the government, especially after observing the performance of ministers and some political appointees.
“I think, usually in the life of any administration, halfway down the line will be enough time to assess their performance and then assess the impact that they put into the system. Most Nigerians expect that there is need to add impetus to governance and looking at the key sectors and ministries, there are some that have done well but there are others that haven’t done well. So there is the expectation that the cabinet is reshuffled so that there be an injection of new ideas”.
“Two years down the line of any administration is enough to do a kind of assessment and looking at a very genuine assessment, there is still much to do in order to get to the promise land.” He concluded. He also noted that several corruption-related court cases had not been concluded. He added that there was an urgent need to get convictions and declare how much was recovered. He urged the president to see that this was done.
