The Federal Government of Nigeria in its effort to ease the several challenges associated with the generation and distribution of electric power has commissioned two power transformers in Kaduna and Katsina state. These transformers were commissioned by the honourable minister for power, works and housing; Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola over the weekend. A 40MVA mobile transformer was commissioned at the Kaduna substation in Zaria and a 60MVA Power transformer was commissioned in Funtua, Katsina Substation.

“This particular mobile substation is one out of the six 40MVA mobile substations that the ministry empowered the transmission company of Nigeria to procure”, he said. The former Lagos state governor further stated that the transformers were needed for urgent deployment to overload the transmission substation nationwide and was brought to Zaria for immediate installation and commissioning to reduce the load challenge in the substation.

In Katsina, the minister said that the new 60MVA transformers were acquired to replace the faulty ones in the system of the substation. He concluded that ongoing upgrade and renovations of the substations all over Nigeria would increase the capacity of these stations to distribute electrical power more efficiently across the country.
