A pharmacist, Alhaji Tajudeen Adegbite has been shot to death in Kaduna. The pharmacist was shot at his store in Abeokuta Street, one of the business hubs in Kaduna, on Sunday night and he gave up the ghost yesterday. The assassins allegedly had snacks and drinks before summoning the deceased and shooting him from point blank range.
According to eyewitnesses, the killers stormed the pharmacy around 8:30 pm while the store was preparing to close. The deceased was then invited outside and shot on his right foot to immobilize him before another shot was fired in his chest. The gunmen jumped into their getaway vehicle, a Golf 3 car leaving the deceased in a pool of his own blood.
Some neighbors had heard Mr. Adegbite’s cry for help when he was shot in the foot but they could do little to help him while the men with guns escaped after the second shot. The neighbors called the police who arrived at the scene an took the pharmacist to a nearby hospital. Mr. Adegbite died from his gunshot injuries yesterday.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Command; ASP Aliyu Mukhtar confirmed the incident and provided little information on the ongoing investigation. “The Police received a distress call and immediately swung into action by dispatching a team to the scene of the incident. Our men in collaboration with neighbors took the victim to a nearby hospital but unfortunately he gave up the ghost before help could be rendered,” he explained.
“We are working round the clock to ensure that the perpetrators of this gruesome act are brought to justice. We also call on the public to help us with information that may lead to tracking down the killers. But let me assure you that the Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, has ordered for massive manhunt to fish out the perpetrators,” he concluded.
