NDA Bids Farewell to 27th Commandant

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) bid farewell to the 27th commandant of the institution on Friday 27th October 2017. The former commandant, Major General Mohammed Ibrahim (retd) who is renowned as a seasoned infantry officer took over the helm of affairs at the academy on the 12th of August 2015. Before he returned to the academy as commandant, he had served as the Commander of 1 Brigade, Sokoto, the Director of Policy and the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation at the Army headquarters in Abuja.

The Major General ensured that all sorts of structures were put in place in the Academy while he was Commandant to further improve the standard of life and the quality of training that the cadets of the Nigerian Military. He was an exemplary leader that led to him being conferred upon the Chief of Army Staff commendation award amongst several others. During his tenure as Commandant, several renovations were added to the Academy permanent site and the post graduate school in Ribadu Campus, Kawo.

Major General MT Ibrahim handed over the flag that signified the affairs of the Academy to Major General A Oyebade on the 26th of October and he charged the new Commandant to continue the good work of ensuring that the country continues to get officers of high measure from the Academy. He also appreciated the support he got from the new commandant while he was the General Officer Commanding 1 division, Nigerian Army before his appointment as commandant of the NDA.

The pulling out ceremony was held on Friday at the parade ground of the Nigerian Defence Academy permanent site, Afaka on Friday. The Chief of Defence staff and the rest of the service chiefs sent their representatives as they could not make the event that was organised to honour the retiring officer in all the glory of the Nigerian army. The parade guards consisted cadet officers, soldiers as well as several officers of the three arms of the Nigerian military.

Major General MT Ibrahim (retd) in his speech, thanked God almighty for seeing him that far, the commander in chief and the service chiefs for the opportunity and trust, he thanked all the military and civilian staff of the academy and the incoming commandant for the befitting ceremony. The handing and taking over process lasted for a week and was concluded the pulling out on Friday. Several important guests at the ceremony include AVM Okoye, Brigadier General Kazaure who is the Director General of the NYSC, the Commandant of Nigerian Military school, representatives of the service chiefs, Emir of Gumel and the friends and well-wishers of the retired senior officer.
