Mystic Markus, a pig rumored to be psychic has predicted that the super eagles of Nigeria would reach the semi final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The allegedly psychic pig predicted that Germany would win the 2014 World Cup before predicting correctly that Donald Trump would win the presidential election of the United States.

Up till now, Mystic Markus has failed to make a wrong prediction and several Nigerians would hope that this current prediction does not spoil the perfect record. The pig made its predictions by picking apples with flags of all the thirty two countries participating at the World Cup attached. According to Mystic Markus, Nigeria, Belgium, Argentina and Uruguay would reach the semi finals of the world cup. It is quite a shocking prediction that leaves out favourites like Brazil, Spain and Germany.

In 2010, a psychic Octopus made the news as it correctly predicted eight games of the competition. It predicted that Spain would win the semi finals against Germany and the final against Netherlands. Since that time, it has become more common to see psychic animals coming forward to make predictions.

Farmer and micro pig breeder Juliette from Heage, Derbyshire, said: “Marcus is the seventh child of a seventh child and apparently they’re gifted with special powers so maybe that’s where it comes from. A few years ago I was invited on a radio show because of Paul the octopus predicting results and they wanted to see if I had any animals that had the ability. I hadn’t tried the seventh child theory out so thought I’d give it a go.”

Up till today, no African side has ever played in the world cup semi-finals. If Mystic Markus does get it right, Nigeria would be the most successful African team in the World Cup history. A semi final defeat does not signal the end of the road as the losers of the semi-final ties get to play a third place play-off
