Mrs. Talatu Hosea Akuchi was released by her kidnappers over the weekend after spending almost a week in captive. Pastor Hosea Akuchi was shot to death last week at his residence in Rigasa while his wife was kidnapped. His death caused a lot of uproar with Christian Association of Nigeria, and many other people including Senator Shehu Sani condemning the unfortunate incident.
A family member disclosed that the sum of N500,000 was paid as ransom to secure her release. However, the Nigerian police force denied knowledge of any ransom fee while confirming her release. The unnamed family member disclosed that the kidnappers dropped Mrs. Talatu Hosea Akuchi at a remote location on Saturday after the ransom was paid.
“Please be informed that our mother and sister, Mrs. Talatu Hosea Akuchi, was released to us Saturday night. She cannot talk to you now because she is in the hospital and she is also on medication. I really appreciate your concern during the trying time of our late reverend and his family,” the family spokesman said
“We paid N500,000 before we could secure her release. We went through hell to raise the money because we know what it means for a woman who is supposed to be mourning her husband who was killed by the same people that abducted her would be going through. It is unfortunate. Everything happens so fast. Our government needs to do more in terms of security of lives and property across the country.”
“This was somebody we were together last week Sunday. These criminals stormed his house, killed him, abducted the wife right before the children and asked us to bring N500000 before releasing her to us. It is painful but we believe God will judge every one of us according to our deeds”
The police also confirmed her release but said they were not aware that any ransom was paid to the kidnappers. The Kaduna State PPRO said “Information reaching us confirmed that the wife of the late Reverend, Mrs. Talatu, was released Saturday night unhurt and she has been reunited with her family. I’m not aware of any ransom.”
