KDSPHA- Kaduna State Primary Health Development Agency has formed a new partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to improve the high undernourishment status of Kaduna state to the level that is accepted in all developed countries of the world.
KDSPHA held a one week task force meeting over the weekend to discuss the plans set in place to achieve thi goal with other state stakeholders. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and Community Infant and Young Child Feeding Practice (C-CIYF).
Dr. Idris Baba; the Officer in Charge of the UNICEF Kaduna Office welcomed the KDSPHA delegates and the other participants. He disclosed that Nigeria rates among the world’s highest in terms of child mortality. He encouraged all participants at the meeting to play their respective parts as UNICEF would continue to work with the Kaduna State Government towards improving nutrition outcomes among women and children.
According to the Nutrition Specialist at the Kaduna Field office of the UNICEF; Chinwe Ezeife, the meeting was to ensure that all the members present played their respective roles in the mission to reduce malnutrition in Kaduna. She charged the KDSPHA, CMAM and C-CIYF personnel to deliver quality and world class services at their respective institutions.
“This meeting is geared towards mobilizing and sensitizing stakeholders on supervision, participation and ownership of the programme and also share with stakeholders on supervision, participation and ownership of the programme and also share with stakeholders, achievement recorded in their communities, collect data from Nutrition Focal persons (NFPs), identify gaps and proffer possible solutions”
KDSPHA responded to the presentation of the Nutrition Specialist through the Ating Executive Secretary of the Agency; Muhammad Auwal Waziri who remarked that Nutrition and Universal Health Coverage and immunization was the third prong priority of the present administration of Kaduna state government. He charged the participants of the meeting to provide solutions and methods by which the defaulters in the implementation of quality CMAM and C-CIYF.
The participants of the meeting were selected from 13 Local government areas of Kaduna state including Makarfi, Lere, Birni-Gwari. Kajuru, Kaduna-North, Kaduna-South and Zaria.
