PDP to decide gubernatorial candidate for Kaduna 2019

The Kaduna state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to pick a consensus candidate among the nine aspirants hoping to pick the governorship ticket for the 2019 election. The candidates reached this decision in order to reduce the disagreements that will arise from the conduct of the party primaries.

The nine aspirants under the umbrella of the PDP have set up a committee to help select a consensus candidate. The chairman of the committee is Alhaji Ramalan Yero; who is the immediate governor of Kaduna state, and an aspirant for the 2019 election. The committee is made up of the other aspirants who are members. The aim of the committee is to work out modalities on how the consensus candidate would be selected.

Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, one of the aspirants and committee member spoke with newsmen in the state capital during the weekend. He said that “the decision to produce a consensus candidate was informed by the desire to present a united front to confront the incumbent governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai”

Alhaji Mikati also disclosed that Kaduna state would become one that other states in Nigeria would be envious of if the PDP returned to the helm of affairs. He explained that all the issues that have risen against Kaduna state would be frontally tackled as soon as possible.

The nine aspirants that have so far indicated interest to be candidate of the PDP include former governor of the state, Alhaji Ramallan Yero; a former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Alhaji Isah Ashiru; a former Finance Controller of the Economic Community of African State, ECOWAS, Mohammed Sani – Bello, and a former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed Sidi. Others are Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Jonathan Kish
