Kaduna to Generate Record IGR This Year

The Kaduna State government has announced that it is expected to generate over 28 Billion Naira as its internally generated revenue (IGR) in 2017. At the end of last year, Kaduna state was only able to realize 23 Billion Naira as its IGR, if the 28 Billion Naira is reached, it would be the highest IGR generated by Kaduna State since it was formed.

Mrs. Phoebe Sukai Yayi, the Director of the Development and Coordination Planning and Budget Commission in Kaduna state made this announcement at a conference in Minna. She said that this high records of IGR is due to the impeccable record keeping of the tax collection system in the state.

Mrs. Yayi said that Kaduna state managed to generate a sum of 14 Billion naira only. This she said “was as a result of improper record keeping, lack of accountability and touting. Today as I talk to you, we do not have touts in the tax collection system in our state.”

Furthermore, Mrs. Yayi added that the the introduction of e-payment for taxes and levies also made it easier and much more convenient for the citizens of Kaduna to pay their taxes and levies on time. All these assisted the state government in boosting the state IGR.

The Governor of Kaduna State had informed the public that his administration would take tax collection seriously. The state government had launched several media campaigns including the use of signboards and social media encouraging the people to pay their taxes.

The state government would be pleased by the generation of record IGR and would hope that there would be more increase by the end of 2018. The people of Kaduna would however hope to see that their state government puts all internally generated revenue (IGR) to good use for the benefit of the people.
