The Kaduna Electric Company has disclosed that the power supply to Kaduna State can be regular if the customers are willing to pay for all of their energy consumption. This would allow the distribution companies service the electricity value chain. This disclosure was made by the Chief Marketing and Customer Services Officer of the Kaduna Electric; Mallam Murtala Bello.
Mallam Bello explained that the unwillingness of the customers to pay for all their energy consumption has made the provision of a constant power supply difficult. He said that the challenges that power supply face in Kaduna include carelessness among the electricity customers, the belief that that electricity is a free amenity that is provided by the government. “There is a lot to contend with as retailers of electricity namely: energy theft, customer apathy to payment of bills and misconceptions about who should pay for electricity. Some people don’t pay up to 100% of the value of the electricity they consume, and this gravely affects the business we do”, he said.
The senior officer at Kaduna Electric made this disclosure at a gathering with newsmen after the Kaduna International Trade Fair. The Kaduna Electric has a special day event during which they announced that all customers can now make payments using online platforms from any location in Nigeria.
Mallam Bello was informed by one of the newsmen at the gathering about an ongoing rumor that the Kaduna Electric Company lacked adequate manpower. He dispelled this rumor without any reservations. He informed the public that the company had more than enough manpower to efficiently carry out its responsibilities. He also revealed that the company is still in the process of recruiting about five hundred linesmen and these individuals will boost the technical efficiency of Kaduna Electric and would bring them closer to their aim of ensuring constant power supply.
