Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has directed that identity cards must be presented by prospective passengers who would like to ride on the Kaduna-Abuja train before obtaining tickets at ticket sales points in Kaduna and Abuja.
He said this measure is being taken to forestall the transfer of tickets tithe highest bidder which has been the practice in recent times, passengers in presenting their ID cards will be issued a ticket with his/her name boldly written on it.
He said complaints from passengers on hoarding of first-class tickets by officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and transfer of tickets from one passenger to another by passengers at Idu and Rigassa Railway Station has resulted in the measure being taken.
Mr. Niyi Alli, Director of operations and acting managing director of the Corporation, said that staffs of the NRC who were involved in the act have been redeployed while some senior staffs have been posted to Idu and Regasa to make sure staffs comply to the directive.
Mr. Niyi urged passengers wishing to enter the train to obtain ID cards as those who don’t have would not be allowed on the Train.
