The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON has reached a decision to exhibit the activities of the organisation to the public. To reach this goal, a showroom at the corporation headquarters has been remodelled and upgraded to a world class level.
The DICON is a state-run defence corporation of Nigeria and it is operated and managed by the armed forces of Nigeria. The corporation is responsible for the production of defence materials and several civilian materials. The DICON Administrative Headquarters is located along Ahmadu Bello Way in Kaduna. The commissioning ceremony was held on the grounds at the headquarters with several notable individuals in the Ministry of Defence in attendance.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the corporation; Major General Bamidele Ogunkale explained that the renovated showroom was one of the first steps to put DICON back to its deserved position in the mind and plans of the country. General Ogunkale described the corporation has a national asset that is very valuable to the country because it has been conceptualized and midwifed in line with the best practices from all over the world.
Major General Ogunkale explained that the presence of a showroom such as this would enable DICON to showcase its activities especially to the public and the potential investors and partners. The director general said that this plan was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directives to the ministry of defence so that a proposal for the establishment of military industrial complex would be prepared. It is believed that DICON would be playing a pivotal role when the complex is established.
The permanent secretary for the Ministry of Defence; Mrs. Nuratu Batagarawa was present in Kaduna for the ceremony. She expressed her pleasure at the progress that DICON has made and how its activities remain in line with the defence headquarters and the plan of President Buhari to improve all areas of the country.
