Kaduna State NYSC Drug Free Club in collaboration with stake holders organized a sensitization program on the dangers of drug abuse and illicit drugs, the program was attend by NGO’s based in Kaduna and invited schools.
Esi Aba Bethel the president of the Kaduna North chapter of the Club told Kada News Mag “This is a program against drugs, taking illicit drugs and its abuse, we’ve identified the problem of our society, you know that the major problem of our society is drugs that 70% of our youths today are involved in drugs, so we have decided to catch them young, that is why we have brought them here today, to tell them about the effects of illicit drugs. We partnered with Lucrative Youths and Sports, Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, aslo we have National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC and Kaduna State Ministry of Health”
When asked if the state Government was involved in this program he said “We did not involve the government into this but we believe that the current administration is interested in drug abuse advocacy, and i know if he (The Governor) hears about what we have been doing he would be very happy about it”
Invited schools also trilled guests with drama presentations to further enlighten participants on the effects of drugs on the development of communities, they showed how pair pressure can lead most youths into doing drugs and abusing drugs. Certificate were presented to participating schools who attended the event.
A total of 30 Schools were invited but only five (5) school were present at the event, some of the schools that could not make the event gave reasons why they could not attend the event and the organizers have insisted on still visiting the school that did not make it to the event.”
The president of the NYSC Kaduna Drug Free Club advice youths in the state to take advantage of the Lucrative Youth and Sports program, or any private NGO’s to get involved in activities that would take them away and off drugs.
