Hon. Yakubu Umar Barde, a member representing the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives has called upon the federal government to provide adequate security and assistance for the people of Kasuwan Magani over the violent clashes that tore the community on Monday.

Hon. Barde released a press statement in Kaduna yesterday in which he stated his displeasure over the recurrent clashes that have plagued Kaduna state in recent times. The Nigerian Senate yesterday discussed the clash at plenary and urged Nigerians that the perpetrators of the incident would be apprehended as soon as possible.

In his official statement, Barde also stated the steps that he would like the federal government to follow so that peace and normalcy can be returned to the region as soon as possible.

“I will move a motion during our plenary tomorrow (Thursday) to demand for urgent intervention of the Federal Government so that NEMA could bring in more assistance to displaced persons.” “I will also demand for more security to our vulnerable communities. I shall soon return home to assess the situation and find ways of more remediation and peace building,” the statement from Hon. Barde said.

“I was also informed that for the timely intervention of law enforcement agencies, the situation could have been worse. I am also glad that Governor Nasir el-Rufai had requested State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to supply relief ma- terials to affected people and also directed that all culprits be brought to book.”

This unacceptable tragedy is coming at a time that many parts of the hinterlands of Chikun LGA are assailed with invasions by the bandits’ cattle rustlers. He added: “Just last Sunday, Mr. Mamin and Dauda Ayuba, were gunned down by criminals in Dagbache and Gazama villages in Chikun Ward, while Mr. Dandebo Ishaku is now recuperating in a hospital following gunshot wounds he sustained during the invasion by the marauders,” Barde continued

“This is just one of several occurrences in recent times. It is while making all efforts by key stakeholders to ensure the end of the violence and crime in the area that Kasuwan Magani erupted on Monday. Even though I am not at home, I followed the Kasuwan Magani fracas from scratch to the end and I am deeply appalled that we are yet to apply religion the way our Creator intends us to,” Barde concluded.
