Arewa Youth Withdraw Quit Notice To Igbo; Ndibgo Reacts

The coalition of Arewa youths has withdrawn the quit notice that was issued to all Igbo residing in Northern Nigeria. The quit notice was issued earlier in the year to all Igbo Nigerians to vacate the north before October 1 of 2017. The spokesperson for the coalition, Abdulaziz Suleiman said that the withdrawal was as a result of several consultations and pressure from different organizations.

Suleiman revealed in a statement that the governors of the states in northern Nigeria, as well as northern traditional rulers, the director general of the DSS and some officials in the presidency strongly influenced the decision behind the withdrawal.

Reacting to the withdrawal of the quit notice, the deputy national publicity secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo; Chuks Ibegbu has lauded the Arewa youths for their decision. Ibegbu admitted that the Arewa youth got it wrong initially as they should not issue a quit notice to any person or a group of people to leave any Nigerian territory.

He also praised the current administration for coming out to state that every Nigerian is free to live in any part of the country that they desire to reside. he also encouraged the government to try as much as possible to address the perceived political imbalance to stem further agitation in the country. “we have to remind ourselves that injustice, marginalization among other factors led to hate speeches and restiveness in the land”, he concluded.
